I’ve been studying the 1920’s for about a year now. One of the first things I looked up was the slang. There wasn’t much I hadn’t heard yet, the slang used then is still prevalent now, especially in the theater, such as: a pushover, ritzy, swell, hair of the dog ect. There are many things I’ve picked up since then that I appreciate:
Giggle water: Alcohol.
Don’t take any wooden nickel’s: Don’t do anything stupid.
Juice Joint-speakeasy/bar.
It’s funny how with each generation, new words are created to diverge from the past slang. Its fascinating to observe which words work with society and may stick decades later and which are lost forever.
