The couple thats said to have been the “best dumb dora act comedy team of all time.” George Burns, a man with more wit and ambition than the average person, had a very successful career as an entertainer after years of wandering the streets for it. “I was a small-time vaudeville actor until I was twenty-seven years old. And when I say small, I mean the smallest. But I loved show business and never let anything discourage me. I was a singer, a dancer, a yodeling juggler, I did a rollerskating act, an act with a seal, I worked with a dog…you name it, and I did it… I never thought I wasn’t doing well. I felt sorry for the audiences when they didn’t get what I was doing.” He also wrote 10 books, all successful and wrote the couples’ acts out. Gracie Allen, also known for her wit, character and charm. She was thrown off her first dramatic roles because she was getting better reviews than the main-act. When they met, they were both hoping to hit it off big time, and they did, when they met each other. Before they had any romantic relations, they worked together in a business manner. They completed each other because together, they were an unbeatable pair. They played naive in a classy and entertaining way, never dull. They were both extremely talented, well rounded and will hopefully always be relived for upcoming generations.
George: “Did the maid ever drop you on your head when you were a baby?” Gracie: “Don’t be silly, George. We couldn’t afford a maid. My mother had to do it.”
Gracie: “Guess what, George, my sister had a brand-new baby.”
George: “Boy or girl?”
Gracie: “I don’t know, but I can’t wait to find out if I’m an aunt or an uncle.” |
