(Jodie Edwards) Butterbeans(July 19, 1895- October 28, 1967) and Susie Hawthorn Edwards(1896-1963)- Comedians, Musicians, This duo performed and made in big in African American Theater, starting in vaudeville in the 20’s until the 50’s. Their acts were normally made up of martial quarrels, silly dances and down-on-luck acts. They also wrote a few blues songs and acted in multiple black films. They used their fame to help influence younger black comedians. They gave advice, help and tried introducing the younger generation to the older.
