The extremely talented, Lilyan Tashman, was in 66 films before the age of 37, when she died of abdominal cancer. This Jewish star began her career in vaudeville with big time stars Eddie Cantor and Al Lee, who she married and later divorced. She was picked up soon after and entered the world of film. She was a fascinating woman, she openly married a gay man while having her own affairs with women. She had a raspy singing voice, which gave her more range in her acting career. She normally played a harsh, “bitchy” woman, but excelled in comedy. Her last film was Frankie and Johnny which was released two years after her death in 1934.
